Sask Sport Inc. March Athlete of the Month nominees announced
The following athletes are nominees for the Sask Sport Inc. March Athlete of the Month Award:
- Colette Bourgonje, 44, Saskatoon.
Bourgonje won bronze medals in women's 5 km freestyle and 10 km classic at the Winter Paralympic Games in Torino, Italy. She also placed sixth in the 2.5 km freestyle. Bourgonje was nominated by Cross Country Saskatchewan.
- Mark Dodds, 22, Saskatoon.
Dodd led the Canada West Conference with 4.44 kills and 5.22 points per game at the CIS University Volleyball Championships in Hamilton. These totals placed his second overall in Canada in both categories. Dodds was named the Canada West player of the year, CIS player of the year, and was named a First Team All Canadian for the second consecutive year. He was nominated by the Saskatchewan Volleyball Association.
- Ali (Alexandra) McCudden, 14, Regina.
At the Western Canadian Taekwon-Do Championships in Regina, McCudden earned four gold medals in junior female middleweight sparring and first degree patterns. Due to this accomplishment, she was selected to the National Team. She was nominated by Saskatchewan Taekwon-Do Federation Inc.
- Nicole Cargill, 22, Regina.
Cargill won gold medals in the senior solo technical routine and senior solo free routine at the Eastern and Atlantic Divisional Challenge in Quebec City. Due to this accomplishment, she will compete at the National Team Trials for selection to the National Team. Cargill was nominated by Synchro Saskatchewan.
- Bruno Axemen Broomball Team.
This 20-member team coached by Ray Bender, Dave Suer, and Jeff Nostadt placed first at the Canadian Senior National Broomball Championships in Leduc. The team will now represent Saskatchewan at the 2007 National Championships in Selkirk, MB, as the defending champions. The team was nominated by Saskatchewan Broomball Association.
