Sask Sport Announces Nominees for the December Athlete of the Month Award
Sask Sport Inc. is proud to announce the nominees for the 2005 Sask Sport Inc. December Athlete of the Month Award. The following are the athletes nominated for this award:
- Rusty Malinoski, 22. A member of the Canadian National Water Ski and Wakeboard Team, Malinoski recently earned the gold medal at the Tige ProAm in the Florida Keys. He competed against athletes from five countries in his category. His performance earned him a spot on the Pro Tour that is held throughout the U. S. Malinowski was nominated by Water Ski and Wakeboard Saskatchewan.
- Justin Warsylewicz, 20. Warsylewicz earned a silver medal in the 5000m and bronze in the 1500m at the Canada Post Single Distances Speed Skating Championships in Calgary. There were over 100 competitors at the event and 29 in Warsylewicz's category. This performance earned him a spot on Canada's Olympic Team, and he was also pre-selected for the Team Pursuit in Torino, Italy. Warsylewicz was nominated by the Saskatchewan Amateur Speed Skating Association.
- Christine Richardson, 15. At the World Junior Racquetball Championships in Mexico, Richardson competed in the 14U girls singles category and went 1-2 in the preliminary matches before winning four consecutive playoff matches to win the gold medal. Richardson also won the bronze medal in doubles. A total of 350 athletes from 19 countries competed in the event, including 12 in Richardson's category. She was nominated by Racquetball Saskatchewan.
- Kelsie Hendry, 23. At the Jeux de la Francophonie Games in Niamey, Niger, Africa, Hendry won gold in pole vault by clearing 4.15m. Her strong performance earned her the right to compete at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia in March. Hendry was nominated by Saskatchewan Athletics.
